They discourage customers from supplying their own parts as they won't be able to make additional profit and are unable to warranty their work. In addition to parts markups, some shops charge an additional environmental and shop supply fee which is added on to the final invoice. It is typically a percentage charged based on the total invoice amount. Some shops will charge those fees regardless if no fluids or parts were disposed and no supplies were used.
Imagine dining at a restaurant and being charged an environmental fee and restaurant supply fee for the use of napkins, condiments, and forks.
